About
Blending (a little) improvised writing with premise-based sketch comedy writing, this four-week course aims to replicate the nicest possible version of a professional comedy writer's room. Each participant will work from concept to redrafted script through a step-by-step process while we see if we can't get some laughs in for ourselves along the way. Although some history with comedy or writing is an asset, no previous experience is necessary as we dive into this guided laboratory environment. A main goal here is to expand and explore each participant's unique comedic voice through naturally emerging tone and themes. We will also touch on the elements usually required for a professional submission package as well as skimming connections between sketch comedy writing and larger narrative arcs in scripted comedy.
This four-week sketch comedy class runs May 3-24 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
